The Quad Cities River Bandits broke a 7-7 tie in the 12th inning when Michael Swinson (1-for-5) singled to left field to score Oscar Taveras (4-for-7) from third in a 8-7 walk-off win in the series opener with the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Saturday night in front of 5,701 fans at Modern Woodmen Park.

Releiver Iden Nazario (W, 1-0) picked up the win despite allowing a run in his two innings of work to close out the game. After the River Bandits designated hitter Geoff Klein was entered in the game defensively, the pitchers were forced into the batting order. Out of pinch hitters in the 12th inning, Nazario was forced to bat with Oscar Taveras on second after his double. Nazario grounded out to the second baseman up the middle but advanced Taveras to third base. Swinson then came to bat with his eight-game hitting streak on the line and hit a single to drive in Taveras for the win and to extend his hitting streak to a season-high nine games.

Bandit starter Zach Russell went four innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six batters. Nazario struck out three in his two innings in the winning effort.

Russell was opposed by Bowling Green starter Enny Romero. The lefty went only two innings and he allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Romero also walked three in the game. Releiver Jimmy Patterson (5-3) came into the game in the 12th inning and went 2/3 of an inning allowing the winning run to score after surrendering two hits for the loss.

Oscar Taveras extended his hit streak to 11 games, which ties a season-high. Swinson has now hit safely in nine straight games, after his single to end the game. Kolten Wong snapped his 11-game hit streak with his 0-for-6 performance Saturday night.

The Bandits continue the series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods Sunday. Right-hander Boone Whiting (1-1, 1.98) will oppose left-hander Braulio Lara (3-6, 4.59). First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park. Sunday is also the HyVee reusable grocery bag giveaway on a U.S. Bank Family Sunday. It's also Nestle Purina Dog Days of Summer and Monkey Joe's Kids Run the Bases. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m.
