Cathy Johnson's favorite waterbrushes--a short video that may end up part of a longer one! (Though I have to admit I still prefer REAL brushes of a generous sizeand plenty of water for big juicy washes! : -)

Recorded on September 3, 2009 trying out my new Flip Video camcorder.

  • Can you fill them with Ink like in the Tria Bursh Pen?

  • @BinaryDood I'm told that you can, but not sure how long the brush would last. It would depend on the ink, some tend to clog fountain pens, and probably would brushes, too!

  • Fantastic.. I'm traveling in India for 5 months.. and have wondered what to use.. although I don't know where I'll find in India .. I can get next time I'm back in the states and return with them. I just found your site etc.. and will look forward to learning more. .. fyi -- the sound on the video was very low.

This was one of my first videos--hope you come back and visit some of the later ones with higher sound and better lighting!

  • I tried this short video first. The sound quality was not so good and the video was slow and jerky. Remember that video for web has a lower video resolution than video for HDTV. If you are using a PC rather than a Mac, i can't help you any more than this. Apple's iMovie is easy to use and makes the selection easy.

  • @ashtenay THanlks for the input, yes, this was one of my first videos--handheld and too dark. I appreciate the tip on low res, might upload faster.

You can totally use ink in these. I use PH Martin Bombay Black ink, which is non clogging, diluted with water anywhere from 40-80% full value.

Do not use Higgins ink. It will clog the fool out of your brushpen. I think it has varnish or something in it that stops up the pen's valve. Anyhow, whatever Higgins ink has in it, PH Martin's bombay black doesn't.

The brush tip does wear out after a time, but even then it's a gem for sketching.

  • I really want those waterbrushes but I could not find them in Pakistan :(
