Lear a few simple words in Twi, the main language of the southern half of Ghana. The spoken words are written at www.EasyTrackGhana.com/BasicInformation/language.htm (remove the %20 that cut-and-paste will add to the address)

  • Thanks for the great comments! We are really happy that this video is useful to some - and causes homesickness for others! This obruni in Ghana is doing his best. I really appreciate all the feedback! PEACE and GOOD HEALTH always!

  • Thanks d00d7....you have illustrated my confusion. You state "Oburoni is used mostly for white people." What else is it used for? I have heard African-Americans called Obruni before. Maybe because they have lighter skin?

  • Lighten up you linguists and Twi purists!

These language videos are for visitors with no knowledge of the language. What we have posted is certainly acceptable for a casual visitor to Ghana who has never spoken the language.

Clearly any visitor to Ghana that is able to speak the words in these videos will get a much better reception than a person who cannot speak any Twi at all.

  • actually obruni is anyone who neither sounds Ghanaian nor african.not necessarily white.this video is so by-force.sucks big time.

  • I welcome any native Twi speaker to contact me if they wish to help produce a better video. With so few resources to learn this language, we are proud to have this post online. Clearly a better job can be done, but I am just a simple tour operator, not a Hollywood producer.

  • When black Americans and black Europeans are called Obruni as well as white visitors, how can you say it means "white person"? I believe "stranger" is a more appropriate translation. Although Obruni does imply whiteness because the proper reply is "black person".

  • Our school's top choir is going on a trip to Ghana in 2012, mostly around Accra. Do you have any advice as to what kind of things I should learn? Obviously it's a guided trip, but I want to be able to talk with the locals. How different is the English spoken there?

  • OBURONI!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • I Think this Video say for anyone that wants to hear or learn the Language this is a very good video to put out there, and I'm glad u have other people that want to learn the language yh Ghana there are alot of Tribes and Languages in Ghana but, I would say the same for many say other African Countries I fink its just really refreshing to hear a little humour in the vid but also so down to Earthness in the Vid so yh seriously if u put dis Vid out my Twi aint all dat gd too but I do appreciate it

  • this is sooo educative and amazing. keep the work up man.

  • sensitive douche: Aburokyiri means "across the sea" or "overseas" in twi. The root word is attached to that of Oburini. Hence, the meaning of oburini is something like, "one from over the sea." Stranger is more accurate that whitey. Take one of those water sachets, clean out your vagina, and stop worrying about the nuances of a language you clearly are unfamiliar with.

  • why the hell is the white guy doing the twi im from ghana and the white guy can even say twi right wa bou paa nipa ho ye hu

  • I went to GHana in 2009 for 4 months. I loved learning Twi. This brings back so much memory! Now, I started a club in my school to fundraise for WAAF in Ghana, and some of them want to go to Ghana. So I am teaching them everything I know, including TWI. This is a very helpful video for them =) THANK YOU!

  • quite useful :)

  • Haha. Twi is Jamaican's daddy
