**WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY!**
11/28/08: CP Rail's acclaimed Holiday Train made its run north up the ex-D&H mainline in Northeast PA and Southeast NY on Friday November 28th, 2008. Opening celebrations were held at Steamtown Nat'l Historic site in Scranton, PA, which included charitable donations and live entertainment. After getting the clear from the CP South Dispatcher, the CP Mobile Holiday Train lead by AC4400 #9824 heads north up the CP Sunbury Sub under the billboards on US Rt 11. Continuing north, the Holiday Train made a scheduled stop at Nicholson, PA on the famed Tunkhannock Viaduct, where it was greeted by railfans as well as the locals, numbering in the hundreds. After proceeding north, the Holiday Train is seen at CPF 631.3 (Milepost 631) at Summerville, PA making all of track speed. The Holiday Train is last seen rolling through "Binghamton Container", and finally rolling to a stop at the north end of Binghamton Yard at its 9:00PM arrival at Binghamton, NY, the northern end of the CP Sunbury Sub.

  • Great video. Thanks for the labelling. Would really like to see it sitting on the viaduct in person. Railpace ran a still of it this month.

    Thanks for doing this.

  • Yea it was a great night, wasn't as cold as it was last year, then again I dressed PREPARED this year. Yea it looked beautiful sitting on Tunkhannock, but the good feelings came to an abrupt end when we attempted to get out of Nicholson quick to head north to get the other shots of it...300+ people turned out at the viaduct...TRAFFIC JAM!!

  • Great work!! We missed so much in Northern Illinois by it coming thru in daylight!!

  • Haha oh well, at least it CAME through your area. I for one had to drive 3 hours from CT to get to Scranton, then met up with my buddy who lives in NE PA and we chased the thing FAR north! it was cold, but certainly worth it!

  • Nice catches. Why is it blurry at 7:00 or was that intentional? I wish I could have made it up there.

  • Its was intentional...but not really. The camera was left shooting at 1/8th shutter on the car ride between here and Nicholson (the funny as hell behind-the-scenes uncut 2008 Holiday Train 3-part driving intermission video series, which you'll see later on), and when we got here we literally had to jump outta the car, set up the legs, plop the cameras down and hit the button, I didn't even think to change it! oh well, I got a "digital christmas" instead of your everyday christmas-lighty runby!
