End of Chacewater Line Part 1

The Focal group has put together a number of small private films collected by Stan May, the last station master at Newquay Station. The full 40 minute film is available from us at www.focal.org.uk. This first part is of Newquay pre 1916, the last steam trian on the Newquay Branch Line and the Wadebridge to Bodmin track. Part 2 is of the Chacewater line in 1963 just before it closed and Part 3 is of the last train at Perrenporth Station. The original films have log since been destroyed or lost after they were put on to Video tape. It is impossible for me to clean then up but this is a part of our history hopefully will not be lost. What year were you in Saltash? Same as myself, we lived in Saltash and used to holiday in Polzeath. My old man was a bit flash and had a car in the 60's but I still remember going to Newquay and Perranporth by train most years.

Thanks for the memories. I lived in Saltash and used to holiday at Perranporth in the caravan park at the top of the hill. I think Hawkeys coaches dropped us into town then. Perranporth beach halt brought back many memories. As well as motive power, wasnt there certain type/length coaches that couldnt be used as well. Once again many thanks. Dave in Callington
