ANAHEIM - Jonas "The Monster" Gustavsson huge save ignites long-awaited first win for the Leafs -- When it was over, when the Maple Leafs had become the final NHL team to hit the win column this season, a team official gave Jonas Gustavsson one of the game pucks to mark his first National Hockey League victory.
If he keeps this up, you can bet there will be plenty more of them.
Buoyed by the Monsters spectacular stretching save off Erik Christensen in the first period, the Leafs skated to a well-deserved 6-3 drubbing of the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center.
He was amazing, said forward Niklas Hagman, who registered a hat trick. When he made that save, the whole bench gained confidence.

He has a similar style, but he's much bigger than Lundqvist. It's kind of scary to see how much net he covers. Teams must feel flustered when they are driving down the wing, only to see his huge frame taking away most of the net. It has to be so disheartening lol
He seems more a flopper like Hasek - but very aggressive. It was crazy to see him chase a detroit player almost all the way around the back of the net. He likes pokechecking on breakaways (that's how he got beat on the only goal against detroit on saturday - went down for the pokecheck right as he was shooting high)
Ive grown to swedes mostly because I'm a Leafs fan. Borje Salming and Mats Sundin are probably my favorite players. Now with Jonas Gustavsson and Viktor Stalberg coming its getting better. But I agree, when its a game between Canada vs Sweden it's a different story :)
Yeah, I know how dicey it can be for hyped goalies in massive markets but I made sure to really take a good look at Gustavsson before passing judgment. I'm fortunate enough to waste most of time at work at the computer, so a co-worker and I would watch old Farjestad games (including the incredible playoff run) and it was clear this guy was the real deal.
Price on the other hand, I never once bought into.
You can never tell with goaltenders especially in a Canadian market. The Toronto hockey market, no less. Especially when they're highly touted. Ask Justin Pogge or Carey Price from a similar market. That said, I really thought he had the potential, but you just never know when they're painted as saviors before even hitting the ice. Show's alot about Gustavsson's character. Judging by that alone, if Toronto makes the playoffs with him. Look out. Thats where he earned his nickname.
My bad, his save percentage is now .924, it was .908 going into the Red Wings game. I was always hopeful he'd be as good as predicted, but being a lifelong Leafs fan I've learned to be cautious about my optimism. Perhaps that is why others were reluctant to openly express their feelings about him as well.
