How-to-in-a-few video on replacing a worn out bad axleshaft or CV joint yourself. The car shown in an older model Toyota Corolla, but most frontwheel drive cars will involve a similiar process. If your wheels are making a knocking noise while turning, save some money and do it yourself!

  • Good video, im wondering if i should try this myself on my 97 corolla 4wd on the right hand side front axle.. parts is so damn expensive here, and getting others to do it is even more expensive.

But after looking at your vid it kind of looks easy, dont think its so much difference from your corolla to the model i have

  • @sveine86 This is a money maker for most shops and is usually a quick job if the axle doesn't stick in the transmission. Some are more stubborn than others, and this is really the only problem you could run into. Sometimes if you push in the shaft and then yank... it pops out easier. You could always put it back together and drive it to the shop if you can't get it out. Good Luck!

  • Great video for a first time cv shaft repair, like me. I assume the passenger side is the same process, just with a longer half shaft.

  • @trustnot666 Pretty much the same. I have worked on some longer shafts on other model cars that have a support bearing in the middle that requires the removal of a brace or clamp. Otherwise it should be similar. Thanks for the comment!

  • Awesome, brother! My 92 Corolla has started clunking and rumbling on the same side (I have to swap out the bearing too, though), and this video is much more helpful than the Haynes manual. I also enjoyed the wife and kid interrupting... I expect the same when I go about it. :) Thanks for taking the time to post this!!

  • @timjamz Thanks for the compliments. When I changed the bearing I had my local NAPA store press it out and back in the hub... unless you have a hydraulic press it's not something you can do at home. Then make sure the axle nut is properly tighten so that is doesn't go bad after two weeks again like I did. (we all make mistakes...LOL)

  • @adonisjcm Thanks... my oldest son is 8... pretty soon he'll have to learn too. It's a great way to save some money!!! (not to mention... get the job done right.)

  • Your "The MAN!" Thanks so much for this video. I'm teaching the sons to do this stuff on their own and your video is a great help to give them the confidence and know how other than their dear old dad's example and prompting.

  • @guitarguy2082 You are quite welcome... hope it helped!

  • thanks mate ,excellent up load- has helped me a lot , i think my Toyota Seca is similar.
