Music: Prelude to Act I from the music drama Parsifal Composer: Richard Wagner Orchestra: Herbert von Karajan with the Berlin Philharmonic The pictures were gotten from Google.
One of Uncle Adolf's favourite Wagner operas, but he (from the choice available in the 1930s) preferred the Toscanini version. The live version we saw in the 1950s (in Stockholm perhaps)was with Ehrling conducting and Bergstrom as Kundry; next week we had the Furtwangler/Flagstad combination in Tannhauser. That was when opera was still magnificent. Which combination of conductor/singers do other subscribers prefer?

The most beautiful recording of the Parsifal Ouverture. I would have given an arm and a leg to hear that in Salzburg then.
