I disagree with this. I ride with a friend and we always ride fast and we compete between each other, we barely go out, but every other Sunday we just take the shit out of our bikes, because we like to sweat, if I don't sweat I don't feel like I ride at all, i was expecting to watch any feedback you know, how to save energy or something. I am not going to treat a bicycle like a baby, I want to work out u know?

I ride with a group every wekend, & our "social ride" is an average pace of about 18.7 ish, so different stroke for different folks. & we still have those who "race" at every ride, definitely can be annoying, "congrats you made it to the break first, but now we're right next to you." haha. I used to be like this about two years ago until somebody told me about it & made me think about it.

A 'Social Ride' pace should be an overall average in the range of, 12-15mph(excluding hill climbing). This would mean that the pace would be around 15-20+ or- mph. Those who 'race' at even SOCIAL event rides...these are the ones which I say HAVE TO BE FIRST AT EVERYTHING and IMO, are quite annoying!! as mentioned below in other people's comments; Alphas...

Racing is full of alpha types who are going to push the pace all the time. Break the group into levels that are competitive within the sub-groups. Agree on the pace beforehand.

yeah, this is one reason I ride alone. I dont ride to pose like 1/3 of the snobby riders out there. I ride to push myself, if you're too slow and taking up space in your new Sworks Venge then get the fuck out of the way.
..buncha tailor made noobs out there.

Don't be a Half-Wheel Harry.

@gillylikesbikes THANK YOU!!! I hate having to go do a solo ride because the people I was riding with initially didn't really want to push themselves, even though they had it in them to improve their speed....
This is stupid how can you find a comfortable pace with your friends when they are all fat and out of shape!?
I usually leave those fuckers in the dust and meet them at "our" designated checkpoint/rest stop. Every 5-6 ,miles or so

Gentlemen: my recently former training partner went so far as to De-Friend me on Facebook because, amongst other bike things, I wouldn't stand for his half-wheeling bullshit and the total lack of situational awareness on his part that led him to half-wheel me in the first place. It's an evil affliction and I'm glad to see you're doing your part to stamp it out.
After all, Maynard Hershon didn't write a book entitled "Half-Wheel Hell" because he found it enjoyable!
