Herman's Hermits - "This Door Swings Both Ways".

GOODBYE LUCKY STARS (1966) - Part 5 of 10.
Aired June 25th, 1966.

-------------------------

"Thank Your Lucky Stars" was a British television pop music show made by ABC Television, and broadcast on ITV from 1961 to 1966. Many of the top bands performed on it, and for millions of British teenagers it was essential viewing. As well as featuring British artists, American guests were frequent visitors.

Audience participation was a strong feature of "Thank Your Lucky Stars", and the Spin-a-Disc section, where a guest DJ and three teenagers reviewed three singles, is a very well remembered feature of the show. Generally American singles were reviewed.

The Merseyside specials are very fondly remembered and gained huge audiences.
The show bowed out in the summer of 1966, after two thousand artists had appeared on it.

  • Great song about there being two sides to every issue, every challenge. I realize you're only joking Janster59. However, I do not believe that it has anything to do sexual orientation. In 1966, the teen years were meant to be carefree and a time to TREASURE FRIENDSHIPS, other people's souls & spirits, not their physiques. You bring up a very good point, though. Society, a while ago, began to attach a sexual meaning to seemingly everything. SO MUCH MORE TO LIFE!

    Peace & Love.

  • wow, Jim Dale, Pete Murray and Keith Foryce, what a line up and a cool tune too.

  • @redfordforpresident - Hello. And your point is, please?

  • @mjcamck71 Plus how Alice In Wonderland climbed back out of the rabbit hole and how Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher got out of the cave. And Journey To The Center of the Earth -- they found the door that swings both ways.

  • @mjcamck71 very well said!

  • Do you have original flip side of this "For Love"?

  • @firemblemrules9 - Hello. Having been heavily involved w/ social justice, civil rights & peace operations, I assure you, I "noticed" everything. If you believe the song is about anything sexual, or that's what you want it to be, then go with that. I, however, will retain my right to interpret it as a statement about both sides of the life experience, the positives & negatives; the fact that every issue has 2 sides. Nothing the least bit sexual in my view. Peace, Love, Bread, Justice ALL.

  • @mjcamck71 No man can call himself complete until he sees it from both sides? I think it has everything to do with sexuality. The 60s were also about freedom of expression and gay rights, as well as civil rights in general in case you hadn't noticed. I would agree with all the things you said about life in general, but I really don't think that's what the song's about man.

  • Live in Youtube (That's tv in the pass)

  • I was never confused. The fact that Peter is still going VERY strong is proof he'd got it right. whichever way it swung.

  • Oh yes ! 2 sides MMMMM the door does swing BOTH ways!

  • Oh yes ! 2 sides
