After almost two weeks, I finally set foot into my first fortress and hunt for chests which might contain apples.

There's a very rare chance that golden apples can spawn in abandoned mineshaft chests so i say you should explore those aswell. Sometimes there's a good amount of chests in close proximity to eachother and there may be dungeons in the shaft aswell.

Also i'm sure you kept exploring that stronghold in the next episode, but i believe that there's a library in every stronghold generated at the bottom of the stronghold somewhere. There's a chest or two in there and there could be apples.
