The new SmartShell from Speck attempts to solve the protection problem for iPad 2 users running with the Apple Smart Cover. The Smart Cover of course provides protection of the iPad's display in addition to being a functional stand. The back and ports/controls of the iPad, however, are left naked which may be a cause for concern with protection-orientated users.

The SmartShell offers protection of the back of the iPad 2 while retaining full functionality of the Smart Cover. The case features a matte finish in a light-weight 1.2 mm design. Essentially a hardshell case, the SmartShell snaps on the back of the iPad 2. The most interesting feature, however, is the SmartShell offers a small surface for the Smart Cover's magnetic clasp. The area allows the Smart Cover to fold back and stay put when in use.

The SmartShell Case for iPad is available in Pink, Clear, Black Satin (pictured), and Orange. It has a list price of $34.95.

  • @iTechEverything $70 for a smart cover is insane.

  • This looks really good. I hope you do a giveaway of this to match my leather smart cover :D lol

  • How does this feel when it is on? Is it flimsy where the corners or borders can just be pushed off with little effort? How about the width of the dock connector, could it take the camera connection kit without an issue? Last question, how strongs is the magnet on the back? Your answers would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
