Don't mean to rain on anyones parade here, but his 0-60 was 8 seconds. That's a stock run time.

7-14 seconds, if anything its just a hair over 7 seconds which is -1 over stock. Gutting the interior and adding a cone filter made that car real fun to drive. If you notice I didn't even launch it, I simply let the clutch out from idle and got on the gas.. if I had launched it I would have been in the high 6's.

Only modification at the time, was a home made air intake, and a bit of interior weight reduction. Removed seats, carpeting, and rear panels. The Escort is a 94 GT 5 speed 1.8 DOHC. 162,000 miles on it!

Oh and in addition to the mod list below I also increased the stock timing from 10degrees btdc to 14 btdc and ran 93octane only. The 16.5 time was totally stock.

My 1994 Escort GT w Mazda 1.8L and 5-sp ran 16.5@84mph in the 1/4 mile. I added a 4-2-1 header, cat-back exhaust, and cold air intake and it dropped to a best of 15.5@89, not bad for a cheap little Ford. The big problem with these cars is the manual trans... mine chewed up the 2nd gear synchros after only 25k (hard) miles. Otherwise a pretty reliable ride with a nice "cammy" sensation at about 4,500rpms that made it rather fun to wind out.

I gutted one out and raced it in the 4 cyl front wheel stock class on a 1/4 mile oval track. Pretty much the dominant model in that class on short tracks. No turbos or engine mods allowed.

On longer tracks, like 3/8 mile, Hondas nip it out..
