Yes, it's an easy project except the making of the central pipe/roller. The axle has to be exactly centered otherwise the roller will wobble as it rotates and make uneven thickness slabs. I turned two washers to just fit inside the pipe and welded them in place then made a larger washer to keep the wire rope from coming off the ends (which it did at first) Everything else is pretty easy if you have some woodworking/mechanical skills.
The canvas actually isn't canvas. It is something called SlabMat, which really works well!

It's suprisingly stable with the legs extended out. You also can put one foot on the crossbar.

As long as the workmate is stable, that's a pretty good place to knead your clay. Good idea.

Thanks for the book tip, I've been toying with the idea of a roller...would you consider it a relatively easy project to take on? Basic tools?
