The NYPD is looking for a pair of unusually selective thieves. They demand property at gunpoint, then give some of it back. Police say that's unfolding near Columbia University's campus in New York, where victims report being accosted by gunmen demanding a phone. When electronics other than iPhones are produced, the muggers return them. Tim Minton suggests a new personal property protection strategy is in order.

A stolen android phone is pretty useless to them because the carrier will block the phone from being activated once it's reported stolen.
