Read the translation in English:
Monastery of St. Benedict, Subiaco

This tree-lined road leads first to the Monastery, then to the summit of Mount Taleo. Numerous visitors come from all over the world to pray to the great Christian saint, Benedict of Nursia, born in 480, and founder of the Benedictine Order. The atmospheric Monastery complex seems to have grown out of the living rock and includes two caves, one where the saint retreated in prayer for 3 years, elaborating the rules for his order, and the other where he received the shepherds who came to see him. In 529, the saint and his disciples founded the first monastery using the remains of a Roman villa dating back to the time of Nero, which can still be seen by looking down into the canyon. St. Benedict was not yet 20 when he arrived in Subiaco. His motto was: Prayer and Work.
