To help boost cash for the lines Corwen extension plans and the LMS 'Patroit' Class New-Build number 45551 'The Unknown Warrior', the Llangollen Railway decided that their 2010 April Steam Gala's profits would be spilt between these two projects. One guest locomotive, LMS 'Stainer Mogul' number 42968 from the Severn Valley Railway, joined the Llangollen's running resident fleet of ex-mainline classes, including 'Standard 4' number 80072 which had only returned to service last September since ending her BR days at Tyseley in 1965.

The engines seen running throughout the three day weekend were

| GWR 2-8-0 2884 'Heavy Freight Class' number 3802
| GWR 0-6-2T 56xx 'Taffy Tank Class' number 5643
| GWR 0-6-0PT 64xx 'Auto Pannier Tank' Class number 6430
| LMS 2-6-0 5MT 'Stainer Mogul' Class number 42968
| LMS 4-6-0 5MT 'Black 5' number 44806 'Kenneth Aldcroft'
| BR 2-6-4T 'Standard Class 4 Tank' number 80072

The normal variety of gala train sets were used, three Mark 1 passenger rakes in the three different liveries that were used on the Western Region in BR Steam days, an Auto sandwich using GWR Autocoaches 163 (chocolate & cream) and 167 (blood & custard), plus a short Goods train, which for an added fee was available to the public to travel in the style of a guard.

jamielw143 and I had a great day out on this highly scenic 7.5mile long heritage line (soon to be 10 hopefully), thank you to him for his company during the day.

Trains I rode on

1230 Carrog-Glyndyfrdwy hauled by 44806

  • Yes I did see the loco news and I am very happy!

  • @JBTEvans Just thought I should let you know that 7812 is back! and will be working tomorrow.

  • Damn it and I see 7812 is out of action as well, 2 locos I was mainly going for, ah well still going, just to see the diesels mainly now!

  • @JBTEvans Nope, but I can tell you that 6695 won't be taking part.

  • Yes I've downloaded the timetable and worked out what trains the 20, DMU, 52 and 42 are on from the SVR forum, pres gen and D1062s site. Do you know about the steamers?

  • @JBTEvans Hope, you've got the timetable, it's going to be busy.

  • Thank you, yes 42968 is a very nice loco. I'm going to the SVR this weekend hoping to see some other engines rather than here though.

  • Lovely double header shot. Nice to see Mogul somewhere other than the SVR, they do need her a lot at the moment.
