What would video game's most iconic character be like had he not been invented by the Japanese in 1981... What if, instead, Mario had been created to be a classic Hollywood star of the early 20th century? Watch as GameZombie's re imagining of the most famous Italian plumber goes about his day and finds out that the princess has been kidnapped by Bowser.

Well, the initial thought was something more along the lines of: "Hmm, Mario kinda looks like Chaplin". So we thought up ways that Mario and Chaplin could be combined. We wanted to inject Chaplin into Mario and vice versa. Sort of a "What if Chaplin had directed a Mario movie?" scenario. My thought, at least. What doesn't make sense?

I acknowledged the title's reference to Chaplin in my post. All I'm saying is that it comes across not so much as a thought out plan for a movie, but more like them realizing the limitations they were working with, ie. the lack of dialog in the video games. So they probably just said, "Let's make it a SILENT movie!" rather than come up with something more original.

... It's because all of the comedy and jokes are based off of Charlie Chaplin, as is the entire style (costumes, music, grainy film, etc) of the short. Mario's supposed to look like he's from the 1920s. Why else would Bowser have a classic moustache/cigarette?
