i personally think this song is about a girl who is rly in love but feels like the person shes in love with isnt in love with her. and i think she rly wishes tht they were in love with her, so she would do anything (including allowing them to choose the words she says) to be with them, even if she knos its all fake. but she feels even tht isnt ever going to happen, therefore, its too much to ask.
