It makes me sad that people hang on to the hate. Honor your ancestors memories and courage but move on to a bright future. I have 2 friends a white guy from NY State and a black guy from north Florida and their best of friends, hell their friends of mine and I'm English! I love this film and love talking tactics but i leave the politics to the assholes in Parliament and Congress.

This is true beauty! And so American as well! All those battle flags over which so much American blood had been spilled. It is such a shame that the movie "Gods and Generals" flopped at the box office. It should not come as a surprise. Dumb em down long enough(40yearsorso) and anything can happen. Hell, we could even put a commie in the whitehouse

I love this opening; the music and lyrics, and the vibrant colored flags. It stirs something deep inside of me. I'm wondering if there is a place where someone can see all these flags displayed in the open, flying majestically. Is there a Civil War museum that flies these amazing flags or are they too old and to expose to the elements?

Brilliant film, doesn't judge the confederates, and shows them for what they were for the most part, decent farmers who wanted freedom from what was certain empoverishment. The federal government was going to bleed them dry anyhow, as the slaves ended up working in northern factories on the cheap.

"as the slaves ended up working in northern factories on the cheap".

Yes, the blacks were still slaves, sellling themselves into bondage. The civil war was not fought a account of slavery, but about goverment force and control of the Southern States rescources and produce and to take away their democratic right to succeed fromt the enslavemnet of the 'union'.

South Mountain or what is otherwise referred to by the South as Boonsboro was indeed a tactical advantage to the North with a missed opportunity to perhaps even defeat the Armies of Northern Virginia.Lee though was pursued with McClellen overestimating the Confederate force-The numbers suggest that there were some 60,000 Rebs on the field whereas there were 87,000 Northern troops. The pursuit was good enough for the battle of sharpsburg and even more so Antietem creek-these were tactical union+

McClellen indeed maybe something of a question, his inability to follow up his victory at South Mountain in a timely manner has been linked to the Unions surrender at Harpers Ferry and though he did corner Lee at Sharpsburg sufficiently enough that Lee had to stand and fight. it still was mostly a tactical advantage though an advantage irregardless .We are frequently pressed as to why we expected more from Mclellen, his pedigree is legit he was qualified to lead
