Although Myki has been released for the trains and only a select number of people have the cards to operate the system it looks like the equipment is already having teething problems. Also in this item is a report on the Xtrapolis train delivery. As reported on Channel 10 5pm evening news on 30 December 2009

  • "urmmmm..... on that machine probably went to sleep" LOL

  • Metcard is an old system and it is breaking down. It won't last another year. It also has unreliable magnetic stripes, which can cause yearly tickets to fail, and the validators are mechanical which increases maintenance costs. On top of that, it doesn't have a "scan off" requirement meaning that it cannot give accurate patronage data.

  • haha justin "tempolariwly"

  • just remember who sold off public transport in victoria? the one and only jeff kennett.

  • Oh yeah don't rush labour...take the wheels off it, leave it on the front nature strip and take your sweet old time getting those new trains ready..

Us poor passengers will have to learn to wait on overcrowded stations and old trains whilst you fluff about with the graphics on the side and what colour seat covers are going in it.

  • i hav a myki and it is a complete SHIT! i need to put the card onto the sensor thing for like 10 seconds to open the frkn gate! and this is most embarrassing when im trying to pass the gate during times when theres heaps of people and many behind me. IT feels as if theyre saying 'wat is this guy doing? get out of there, we need to pass thru!' Pissed me off so much i just jump over them even in front of those guards. metcard takes one second and works so much finer and smoother.

Myki is only over budget by 250 million, the total of 1 billion goes towards the operation of Myki for the next 10 years, and to operate MetCard until 2011!

  • @Abus709

People buy tickets every day, around 400.000 or more people buy a paper metcard ticket every day, (That would be a lot of trees), with Myki, it's a reloadable SmartCard, it works like an ATM card, it goes for 3 years before getting a new one sent out, If 4 million people state wide use Myki, we would be saving millions of trees, did you know that Myki is the largest ticket system in the world, it has over 900 codes, the one in Hong Kong only has 45, Perth 39!

  • @Abus709

    1. Myki is cheaper than MetCard by around 0.90c for a 2 hour ticket and more for a daily,

    2. Myki is fully integrated with train, tram, bus, town bus (Geelongm Bendigo etc), and all V/Line trains and buses, (State wide), and because it works like an ATM Card but for transport.

    3. MetCard is outdated and old, it's hard for them to find parts for it now.

    4. MetCard users paper tickets, which trees have to be cut down, over 400.000 paper tickets are used every day.
