Found and explained to me by Jiano months ago when he still played Zelda. This requires a fish because bugs move in random directions when you drop them. You should also avoid having the Giant's Knife or Biggoron's Sword equipped.

1. Open the door and mash the pause button like a beast. You might lose a frame here, but it's very difficult to tell. This trick has a two-frame window, so if we aim for one specific frame to bottle the fish, this dropped frame is not going to matter.

2. Buffer dropping the fish. As you drop the fish, mash pause like a beast.

3. Note whether you lose a frame here or not. If you did, then you will see the camera shift slightly before pausing, like the first execution in the video. If you didn't lose a frame, the camera won't move before pausing.

4. Buffer a sword slash. This is why using a two-handed sword is a bad idea.

5. Now start advancing frames. The frame you want depends on whether you lost a frame pausing after dropping the fish.
-If you did, like the demonstration in the first half of the video, then you want to find the first frame in which the sword's white streak is no longer present. Buffer a bottle swing on that frame.
-If you didn't lose a frame, then you want to find the second frame that the white streak is gone, and buffer the bottle swing on this frame. Link will be holding the sword more upright rather than off to the side. See the second half of the video.

6. You should see the "You caught a Fish" text box in the middle of the cutscene. When the Poes begin to steal the torch flames, you will have control of Link. Just walk onto the elevator and sidehop, backflip, or jumpslash when it stops moving.

This trick is mostly useful for getting the Gold Skulltula in the basement without fighting the Poe Sisters.

  • Pause buffering this defeats the purpose...

  • @Kaztalek Depends on the purpose. If you're doing this to save time, it's useless, but it's an easy way to get to the basement with 100% consistency.

  • Would this save time in a IL?

  • @ironight21 No.
