  • A comment was accidentally deleted that asked how the explosion was created. Sorry.

We simply created the explosion by throwing dirt clods at the hill and by having Soldier #3 (Darby Ledbetter) kick additional dirt down onto the two Soldiers from the top of the hill. Sorry Darby...no "Best Dirt Kicker" award:):

  • I thought a family film was supposed to be a film you could take tour kids to see, but you had one dude bleeding from his eyes. It's almost like you had one location you were going to use no matter what the assignment was. The 48 is as much about adapting, as it is about film making.

  • There is only dirt and sweat on the Soldier's face. We felt that a scene with deployed Soldiers would make for a great family film. The Soldiers are real and were asked to participate early Saturday morning of Day 1. Their comments, although "guided," are also at times very impromptu and are like many conversations these two Soldiers have had while they were deployed. They have lived moments like these in real time.

  • did you use after effects for this?

  • Yes, just for the text treatments.

  • If I may ask, what camcorder did you use to tape this?

  • It was shot with a Panasonic HPX-500.

  • GREAT JOB!!! What a touching film! I am part of Fighting with Forks, so we were in a different group. Glad you got some recognition for your great work. I'm Torry Martin's friend, so I found this from his FB pics.
