Looking for a spot to view the incoming storm, I found Lake Kurwongbah, in Petrie in the northern suburbs. I parked the car in an area with no trees between me and the storm - just in case. Still, as the storm's outflow hit, a branch hit the car, and then after that it went crazy, with lake spray, torrential rain and small hail hitting my location - it was great fun! Excuse some of the shaky video - some of that can be blamed on me fumbling with the SLR and phone :)
Incidentally, there were still kids swimming in the lake and/or running around as the storm struck. You'd think the close lightning strikes would've forced them under shelter - but no. I think some of them got quite a shock by the experience.
There were a number mostly small trees and branches scattered around the suburb but it wasn't too bad. There were several other storms on this day in Brisbane and up to the Sunshine Coast as well, which caused mostly light damage and widespread blackouts.
My pics of the day are here:

Wow, I have never seen surf on lake Kurwongbah! I just uploaded a video I shot on the same day in Deception Bay of a lightning strike about 100m infront of me.... have a look if you want.

Nice. Love how you can see it approaching on the surface of the lake.

Good stuff!
Unfortunately the storms I core punched this weekend didn't have the winds of this storm, just a bit of flash flooding. Look forward to the next storm day!
