Disco Inferno was an experimental rock band from Essex that started out sounding like some late 70's/early 80's post punk band trying to fill a gap between bands like Joy Divison, Durutti Column, early Felt and Wire. Their debut album - "Open Windows, Closed Doors" - released on the small indiependent label Che in 1991 - shows a band able to further develop the ideas they so respectfully and skillfully adopted from the prime of the British post-punk scene.

"Set Sail" is the the 4th track on the album. It is also available on the 1995 compilation of the bands first single, ep and album - "In Debt" - also on Che. I'm afraid these records are a pain in the butt to come by these days but I have at least seen one download site offering "In Debt". What can I say? Do yourslef a favor and grab it!

  • Just love the change in direction at the end of this song. Starts at 4:35. Beautiful

  • This song represents a breakthrough sound that still surpasses anything coming out today.

  • totally beautiful work.. all their albums are special. while i am surprised more people don't know about them (since lots of popular bands like MGMT, Animal Collective, etc., cite them as an influence), I am not surprised that many people of this generation wouldn't "get" them. nonetheless, still one of the best late-80's/early-90's bands, one of the most unique of all time, IMO.

  • superb stuff. thanks for posting

  • Temazo al más puro estilo Joy División.

  • What I always loved about Disco Inferno was that we get a band with all that beautiful Edge type guitar work sans the vocal/political headache of Bono. Don't get me wrong, early U2 is classic, but Disco Inferno is more my style.

I mean, the Edge comparison is kind of evident, right? You can really hear it in songs like Second Language...damn that's a good song!!!

  • it's still unknown why they are still undiscovered by the "indie world". animal collective, panda bear or all the "new" chillwave bands (sorry for use this word) are close to disco inferno "go pop" and "technicolour" albums. I can't say that they are the best thing or something like that, just a little mess that they were forgotten ... always a special band

  • nice!

  • Diggin this, don't know these guys?

  • Thank you! Always liked these guys - didn't know anyone else did, LOL. Have to dig up their cd's from the dusty pile now...

  • You have wicked taste in music, thanks man.
