After year of talking FOB Central made an arrow string tracker that you can not do with a vane! http://www.starrflight.com/ . It is very easy and I tried my best to loose an arrow but could not. The video is a bit long but lots of info and many very harsh real life field testing.
@Killemquietly I was thinking the same thing, just thread it threw the insert and ancor it to the point, field or broad head, because i think it would be a good idea for target practice or 3-d also, cause my arrows are not cheap and i hate loosing arrows.

Nice Job Paul!!!, This is Troy from Louisiana (we spoke on the phone) I have one question, why even bother with the fluted dowel? why not thread the fine lead like on the tail through the arrow, through the insert and lock it down with the broadhead itself screwed tight? I don't see any reason to add the weight of the dowel and I could probably fit more string in there without it. Your thoughts?

I've been shooting fobs for a year or so now, and I love the performance they give. I was looking into tracking systems and came across this. I can't think of a better way to do it....great idea, and thanks for sharing. Out here in West Texas we hunt in tall CRP land a lot and you can literally lose a deer in the stuff easier than you think. This should end that as the string should stay on top of the grass.

Thanks! It was fun to make. Not often something works so well the first shot.
