This movie wasn't terrible, although it did usher in the Joel Schumacher era, which was far too campy. I thought this was a good cast, Val Kilmer did a solid job, but the script, production value, campiness just overshadow everything. Schumacher ruined the franchise, that's why a reboot was needed.

Kilmer first learned that he was offered the role of Batman while he was literally in a bat cave in Africa, doing research for The Ghost and the Darkness (1996).
