BROKEN ENGLISH premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival, 2008 in Park City, Utah. The film played before the Slamdance Audience Award winning feature film "The Project" by Ryan Piotrowicz. BROKEN ENGLISH was one of the very few shorts showcased before a feature film during the festival.
The film's title was partly inspired by the Marianne Faithfull song of the same name. The world premiere screening had an excerpt (starting at 2:48) from the song "Ne Me Quitte Pas" by Nina Simone playing over the film's end credits but had to removed for YouTube due to copyright restrictions. BROKEN ENGLISH is Oscar Alvarez's first film.
