"Jesu, meines Lebens Leben", BuxWV 62 by the German-Danish composer Dietrich Buxtehude (1637-1707).

For the lyrics (in german), please visit: http://ingeb.org/spiritua/jesumein.html

Interpreter: Gli Angeli Genève; Direction: Stephan Macleod

Note how excellently the Lament bass is worked out in this interpretation...

The performing ensemble is a relatively young group from Geneva, Switzerland, specialised in German Baroque Music; above all in Bach Cantatas. Gli Angeli has released 2 excellent CDs; this tune is from their first disc. For more information, please visit the website: http://www.gliangeligeneve.ch/en/ (with background music!)

My apologies for the bad movie - I didn't have any better picture at hand...

  • What a wonderful video...!!! deeply thankful ...!!!!! amazing

  • Nice clear violins !!! ♥

  • Thanks for placing this... I'm singing this with our choir this season (2011), Coorenwijn.nl near Utrecht in the Netherlands. This performing is amazing. It helped me a lot with rehearsing and interpretation. I learned to love Buxtehude a lot.

  • Here is a translation of the last two verses :- You have endured the wounds For which you are pitied In order to heal my torments, And to give me peace. You have my blessing To uncover any curse of mine. A thousand etc. Now I thank you from my heart, Jesus, For all my needs, For the wounds, For the heartache, For the acid, bitter death, For your trembling, For your timidity For your thousand types of torments, For your worry and deep agony, Will I always thank you.
  • Here is a translation of the 1st two verses. Jesus, life of my life, Jesus, death of my death, Which you have given to me In the deepest depth of my soul And in extreme corruption From which I cannot die., A thousand, thousand times, Loving Jesus, you are thanked for this. O, you have withstood Blaspheming, mockery and scorn, Spitting, beating, ropes and shackles, Righteous Son of God, Arm me to save us from The Devil's chains of Sin! A thousand, thousand times Loving Jesus etc.
