The first of the two yokozuna matches starts here with Hakuho facing off against newly promoted komusubi Goeido.

Hakuho had a 14-1 record in January - only losing to Harumafuji during the tournament, but also losing the championship playoff to Asashoryu on the final day.
Goeido had a 10-5 record at No. 3 maegashira, which is what earned him this promotion to komusubi.

Hakuho 白鵬 is from Mongolia, is 24 years old, weighs 154kg and stands 1.92m tall.

Goeido 豪栄道 is an Osaka native, is 22 years old, weighs 148kg and stands 1.83m tall.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goeido

Enjoy!

  • yeah, that was a breeze for him. I think it will be a while before we get another yokozuna.

If you like sumo check out my "Yokozuna Asashoryu Loses Sumo Match" I was there in May 2007 when Asashoyru lost a decisive match ensuring Hakuho's promotion to yokozuna

  • cool -I'll check it out.

  • it excuses, in Japan understand to you if your you write water: " mizu " or " 水 " ???

they can understand of the two ways???

  • ASASHORYU is the best SUMO wrestler and he will be greatest Yokozuna for all the time. God bless him

  • thank-you for showing hakuho's match... he may be boring but he is the only real threat.

As for getting roasted for celebrating - the press is just trying to make a story. That said, the 'bad boy' image sells tickets, and pumps the crowd for the final. I hope he keeps it up.

    and please keep showing hakuho...

    \thanks

  • I totally agree with you.

I understand and i know how many rules and behaviours are ogten required in the japanese society, and by the way most of the times i also agree with that.

But as you said i don't agree witht he way they often criticize Asashoryu, since he's really the best out there and they should probably talk more of that instead of talking of his celebrating. But that's of course just my gaijin opinion. ^^

  • That was fascinating information about expectations of how the Yokozuna should behave.

It's funny because in the states our sports stars do a full out victory dance. After thinking about it they must view our sports stars as very haughty.

Thank you for another great video.

  • Quick win for Hakuho. Seemed pretty easy. Lets see how he does this basho after barely losing the last basho.
