One small thing that is wrong with this story is that the father is a caterpillar therefore not really an "adult"

Very good but the pacing in this example game was bad. I don't want to play a game where you have a cutscene pausing your game every once in a while.
Regardless, I see what you mean.
Yes, the actual pacing is up to you. This is probably the absolute most basic way to insert story into your game. Ideally you would set up the story to be represented through gameplay. I get at that from the son coming out at the end, but that's about it.
