Wounded Warrior Day, 9/19/ 2009

My job was to find bands to perform at Wounded Warrior Day in Jacksonville, Arkansas, September 19, 2009. I got the Bluegrass Bombers, the Old School Band, I-40 East band, and Cosmic Biscuit. The event took place in front of the Jacksonville Museum of Military History.
The Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride is mindful of the military men and women who have returned from war with severe injuries. Particularly by providing specially built bicycles for soldiers who have lost a limb. There were nine of these wounded warrior war veterans, plus ninety other bikers who started this day with a 27 mile ride. After the bike riders took off, a group of forty walkers started a four mile walk. Upon returning, all were greeted with cheers, and could then relax and listen to the bands play while enjoying a meal provided by Centennial Bank.
A light rain did dampen the day, but otherwise everything really went well.

The Arkansas Fallen Heroes Memorial display of American flags on the north lawn was quite a sight. Each flag represented an Arkansan who had lost their life in the Iraqi war. This display suddenly hit home with me, when I saw a flag for a volleyball buddy (Alan Shaw) who had been killed in action in Iraq.
