It's a little known fact that Vinnie's career in porn equaled his percussive accomplishments. The music in this clip was actually used in one of his earliest films--"Busy with the Beavers." His money shot rivaled Peter North's. And all of this derived from an absurd mustache...

Vinnie is widely known as basically the number 1 drummer of the last 25 years.
Only the metal guys don't get it, they are still stuck on Pert and Lombardo, thinking double bass equals great drums....:(

half hr practice w/ systems such as Chaffees 4 patterns books & New Breed, those two alone will work on EVERYTHING- hand technique, because it's singles, doubles, paradiddles, flams- mixed stickings...plus you will improve overall coordination, 16th note 4- way coord (the 18 exercises pg 35-39 in the purple book is biblical), dynamics, polyrhythms, mixed meters...
That stuff will get you drumming like Vinnie, more than just working your hands.

@staedtler777 Actually, I think (and you could be right), but I think Vinnie did this clinic while he was doing a short Japan tour w/ Sadao Watanabe in '86. The reason being, he's using the same kit from the Watanabe video, and he looks exactly the same...(even the same white Reeboks!)

We all know the basics. Daily practice even on just single stroke, arm/wrist/finger, french/german, open/close, moeller, etc. Then move on to double stroke, one handed roll, open roll, etc. An hour a day is not enough to get them right and get them fast, not to mention not becoming a technical giant that forgets about music. I am one to say I will never be as good as them, ie., Rich, Blakey, Weckl, Vinnie, JoJo, Morello, Smith, etc. sad reality for a man to deal with.

Listen to Brand-X "Product" then say Phil Collins sucks. He's up there with Vinnie, Gadd and Weckle. Brand-X w/ Collins is pure proof of that.
