Centre for Non-Violence through the Arts
Mallika Sarabhai founded Darpana for Development more than 20 years ago, specifically to use the arts for social change, working closely with NGOs and government agencies. Mallika has been and continues to be the driving force behind project initiatives such as Jagruti (a school project for environment empowerment involving 10,000 low income children), Parivartan (Social Change & Awareness Amongst Adivasi Women in Banaskantha), Vaividhyotsav (Celebrating Diversity), UNICEF Rural Health Project undertaken in 40 villages on infant mortality and other health issues, the AIDS Awareness Programme and more. Such is the extent and success of Darpana's work in using the arts and television for social change, a book of case studies with an accompanying CD Rom is being put together by a young graduate and researcher from the UK.
This music video is a part of a series of 30 music videos on development themes for the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
