Me shooting a rebarreled M44 Russian in .450 marlin. Did all the work myself, cut shank, and threads, cut the chamber, and made alot of the tooling myself. Thanks to the guys at homegunsmith.com for all they're support

  • why didn't you hold the gun up in front of the camera long enough to show the action and barrel so those of us with an interest could see and appreciate your work?

  • Never really thought of it. Next time I get it out I'll see what I can do

  • how in the hell did u get a mosin nagant to shoot .450 marlin

  • really wasn't hard, it's a single shot right now as I haven't modified the magazine. The boltface isn't modified in any way, just unthread the barrel (it's on REAL tight) turn down the shank and set it's length, cut the threads, and chamber, just simple rebarreling, no different than a mauser or rem 700. I settled on 450 marlin because of it's lower pressure than other belted mags and the head dia would work with the bolt, the barrel shank is small so high pressure should be avoided

  • The extractor isn't modified at all. It's a single shot only right now, but I'm planing on trying to rework the mag to feed the 450 marlin. The rim dia of 7.62x54 is bigger than the .532 of the rim of the 450 and other belted rounds, but I wouldn't use Magnum belted rounds, as they are higher pressure and the barrel shank dia of .972 IMHO isn't up to the higher pressures that they operate at, the 450 marlin is about 43000 psi and the mags are around 61000 psi IIRC

  • @zebdeming Wow! This is pretty sweet. I guess there is an advantage of having the rim on the 7.62x54R! Kinda cool that the bolt works for the .450 Marlin as well (who woulda thought right?). What pressure does the 7.62x54R operate at?

  • I can see where the .450 Marlin would be a good conversion for the Mosin Nagant. It would also be good for the Siamese Mauser too. Navy arms used to make those in .45-70. Another good candidate for conversion would be the Steyr M95 straight-pull bolt-gun.

  • very nice, how did you modify the extractor so that it would eject that cartridge???
