I just barely got the video camera out in time to catch this one. Train 690 was lead by eight units in this very early CSX action. CSX was a little over a year old at the time. The video is a little long, but I thought some might like to see all the old equipment in this train. A few of the things that caught my eye were - 2 Seaboard Air Line camp cars, some old Fruit Growers Express reefers with CRR initials, and the old L&N (short version) bay window cab on the rear. The consist of cars was typical for the time, the train had empty coal hoppers added to fill out the tonnage, then the piggybacks on the rear.

  • What a classic, timeless, makes me think that being born in 1993 means I missed out on some glory railroading days of the 80s and 70s. I'm glad you filmed the entire train here. So much interesting equipment that we can't find or is very rare now. My philosophy is that one should videotape an entire train from engines to FRED/caboose because one never knows what kind of gems may be in a consist.

  • @juliussespiritu Thanks for commenting & watching! I'm glad to have the ability to share my old RR videos here on YouTube. Those days were pretty cool ones to be a railfan, lot to see back then. But, at least I did capture some stuff on video to share with everyone on here.

  • I Wish they would bring back Chessie Colors alone with all the fallen flag lines

  • @tankbutterball Yep, me too Jerry!

  • Very nice. Nice RS5T on the lead unit and unusual Clinchfield covered hopper at 2:10. I just love seeing all the old roadnames, L&N, Clinchfield, Family Lines, Seaboard System, Southern Railway, SCL, SAL, Rio Grande hopper at 4:13. It's all great and I wish they would bring back the old paint schemes instead of the new YN3 paint. I like the YN3 to a certain extent, but I prefer the Stealth, YN1 paint, and Seaboard System paint a lot more.

  • @RailWolf7306 Thanks, glad you liked the video! Yeah, there were some neat old cars on this train so I left the whole thing intact for the upload to YouTube.

  • Those were the good ole days of railfanning.

  • Excellent video! It's a look back in time. Love that you filmed the whole train.

  • I've always wondered why CSX abolished this train....

  • @tankbutterball if i had my model train company come to reality you'd be seeing alot of the old road names back on the tracks, EL, CR, PC, PRR, RDG, SBD, chessie system. my company is a place for railfans

  • But that would mean the CSX really cares about its image or its past.
