I shot this in 24 bit 48khz with the Fostex FR2. Oade Brothers Super Mod on Fostex.

Both mics about 12 inches away. The gain was about 15 percent higher on the Oktava to match the output of the MKH 50.

The Oktava has the Michael Joly mod.

Stock Sennheiser mkh 50

Both had cut filters on. Both Hypercardioid microphones.

  • @youqzerty I don't know about the 744. But I run a sound devices Mix Pre D through it and it sounds as good as a sound devices 702.

  • Hi, thx for this useful demo. The FR2 Oade Bros Modded is comparable with Sound Devices 744? I'm talkin about signal/noise ratio, dynamic range and clarity well known in sound devices recorder. Thanks in advance

  • The best shock mount for the MKH 50 is the Cinela mount. You can also get an Invision 10 by Rycote that will really help eliminate any handling noise. All mics that do not have a great shock mount will have handling issues.. The cinela mount is called: Cinela Osix 3 Shockmount

  • Nice ! Very interresting A-B test, I've just bought an MKH 50 and it's really a nice mike. Poor handling noise and floor noise level extremely low.
