why do you think it is that KJ never got the recognition that payton did? Even now if you ask anyone outside of Arizona who Kevin Johnson was they'd have no idea, but ask who Gary Payton was they'd all know...

You should see his 1989 climb-the-ladder dunk on Utah center Mark Eaton, who stood 7'3" or 7'4", well over a foot taller than K.J.
After the dunk, K.J. had to slide down Eaton's leg (in the short shorts days) in order to get back to the ground.

In the 1990 Western Conference Semifinals, K.J.'s Suns whipped Magic's league-best, 63-win Lakers four games to one. Magic averaged 38.7 points over the series' final three games, but K.J. (who averaged 29.7 points in those three games, plus more assists than Magic) out-played him in fourth quarter after fourth quarter.
