Frank Turek, co-author of "I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist," and Christopher Hitchens, author of "god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," met at VCU in Richmond, VA to debate the subject, "Does God Exist?" A self-professed "fanboy" of Hitchens' admitted that he was a "disappointment" in this debate. Indeed, watch as Hitchens dodges evidence for God given by Turek. This is the first time Turek and Hitchens debated one another.

Congratulations. Then you know that it's highly unlikely that you'd become an atheist had you still been living in Afghanistan.

Had you been born in Afghanistan, you'd be a muslim. That's how religion works all over the planet.
For most atheists is quite the opposite - the majority has been raised by religious parents.
Critical thinking is not encouraged by religions, because critical thinking (or in my case reading the bible) leads to atheism.

"All the god junkies believe in the god of their parents"
That's first anything but a fact (or I'd be praying to some ancient germanic gods) and secondly known as the genetic fallacy - it just doesn't say anything about the truth of a belief how you came into believing it. It's also quite arrogant to assume that atheists are somewhat excluded from that...you have to grant every "god junkie" that he thought about that stuff just as carefully as you did.

@ASexyChef Don't reply to me when I give no relevance to your context.

All the god junkies believe in the god of their parents. Just a fun fact.
I love it when Turek talks about extreme fine tuning of our planet, when in reality over half of our planet is completely unsuited for human life - or at least extremely uncomfortable. Great design.
Why would a perfect being create such an imperfect planet? If I were a loving god, I would not let earthquakes, tornados, tsunamis and drought happen. Because I would be all powerful and loving.

@interactiveandy No one knows what was there before the Big Bang, no one can grasp if it was nothing, there are many theories, that it came into being from a whole lot of something, that whole lot of something is continually happing, muliverse theory with string theory, were you have infinite number of universes, so what happens in this one not special in some gravity was the same, so it a different universe, or expanding faster slower, its basically the exact same with copies of you.

@cnees208 He was joking when he said that, if you could not tell, you really do not grasp his dry sense of humor.

@bythebeardoflincoln Depends really on how your are taught, praying, and worshiping God, can be viewed as slavery, doing good things only to get into heaven, those are basic concepts. Islam actually states people are God's slaves, in most Mega churches Today, God is more of the people are partying too, but thats not really the more traditional, Medevil view, Hitchens refers too, Think of more old school catholic he may of been raised that way I have no clue, fear God, etc..
