Why would they have cannons facing the river? TO CONTROL SAID RIVER. It's pretty easy to understand, man, and very simple: there might've been a Confederate attempt to move stuff down the river, so they decided, "Hell, let's aim some cannons down there so we can blow'em up!"

It's simple strategy.

both sides in the civil war where demonized, the confederate states wanted slavery and the union states wanted to kill all the southern people even though some of them where innocent
