The third Shift Happens arts, learning and technology conference, which happens this July in York, was launched on the 22nd January 2010.
The two-day event at York Theatre Royal is backed by funding from organisations includingArts Council England, City of York Council,Science City York and 4ip. It will feature guest speakers representing international creative and digital media companies on site and via the Internet.
Marcus Romer, the Artistic Director of host organisation Pilot Theatre, adds, "It's an event where speakers and people come together to look at arts, technology and the shifts that are happening in the digital landscape. It's looking at innovation, creativity and people having conversations and developing those conversations around what they think is important. What we are talking about is trying to make sense of it and say 'That'll work really well."
Speakers scheduled to talk at "Shift Happens" are author and academic Sir Ken Robinson,
Alice Greenwald of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum and Guardian journalist Lyn Gardner.
Journalist and producer Ian Aspin will speak at this year's conference. He says, "I got to know Marcus (Romer) on Twitter and he asked me if I'd like to go along to last year's event just to hang out and meet people, and I found this amazing group of people who wanted to engage with new ideas and technologies and new ways of communicating and telling stories."
Aspin, who has set up a personal website and gained over 64,000 followers on Twitter in the space of a year, will share his thoughts at this year's Shift Happens on how digital technology changes people's lives around the world. "There's loads of different ways we can interact with this technology, but there are massive questions that it raises, about how we engage with big issues," he adds.
Marcus Romer adds, "This is the only event of its type in the world, and we are bringing people who are world-class speakers to talk in the city."
Tickets for "Shift Happens" cost £150 and are available online at www.shift-happens.co.uk.
