OK I FINGERED IT OUT .....for the CANON T3i U use the usb cable that comes with the camera NOT THE HDMI cable...back to walmart for u.....open utilities and go from their.their are limits to this application but I like it alot.

Several people mention issues with Mac OS X10.7 (Lion) and the EOS utility. Canon are "working on an update", apparently... So at present this method will not work with a 60D (for example) on a Mac installed with Lion..
