Before the violence of the past week, Egypt was famous for its pyramids and ancient artefacts. The anger on the streets hasn't left that part of the country's history untouched. Items stored at the National Museum were damaged or stolen when protestors broke in, but the head of the country's Antiquities Council says they can be restored. Sky's Peter Sharp reports.

Its sad to think that I have been there 2 years ago and looked at all of these artifacts and mummies. The only artifacts that will remain are the ones in my memory.

@edthewise On one hand this made me laugh because I agree.. on the other hand I disagree because they have valid concerns. Don't forget there are eighty million Egyptians 8 of which live in Cairo - you are going to have jerks as well as good ones - don't you think?

@sgtsnakeeyes11 mmm not stupid... fed up and the ones rioting are probably the ones who have nothing to lose like the Tunisian who set himself on fire... I guess he figured if he couldn't live with dignity then there wasn't much of a point in living at all. As far as I can figure it's not just the political leaders people are fed up with... this is just the beginning - God help us all.

@salam3313 I didn't even mention the man's name and Zionists aren't the only self involved political group out there. Every revolution has a cause.. but my point was you reap what you sow and what kind of Egypt are you aiming for when you damage your heritage, your economy etc.In addition, the policemen you are pointing fingers at are your brothers, your cousins, your uncles, and your fathers....I just pray whoever takes power isn't as "bad" as the one you want out. Vacuums are dangerous.

Dear all,
The truth which was proven and confirmed that the regime set up this whole chaos to suppress the revolution. They sent out thugs to steal, destroy and loot everything to terrify safe people, prevent protesters from going out and hiding the massacres that took place leaving 350 people killed, 1500 injured and hundreds arrested during a peaceful democratic protest that was even less tense than students' demonstrations in UK.

This is the kind of democracy these people want? Its all just a big rouse to give them a license to loot and steal.
