I lurk at Videokarma with a bunch of other very helpful guys. It's a site dedicated to vintage video and audio gear. You should join if you want to learn more.
I started out taking stuff apart as a kid. I found looks old old TVs and radios in the trash in the 80s. BY the time I was a teenager I could sometimes fix them.
I took four years of electronics in HS, then got a BSEE in college. The rest I learned from books and online forums. Check out ARF and Videokarma.
