EVO 9 Finished top 10 at the Top Gear festival in Melbourne on the Test track. This video is my last & final run, which was also my fastest: 57.955. The rest of the top 10 was mostly open wheelers which were better suited to this tight and technical track with Armco very close to racing line.
This event was a shake down for the EVO which has new a new engine (still running in on a standard Turbo), new suspension, new brakes, new diffs, etc. Car had not been run with the new set-up, so was largely an unknown quantity. Very happy with how the car performed, given the car still has a lot of improvements which can be made.
A big thank you to David Bourke at Race Prep for getting the car ready with some late nights before the event. Also a thanks to Glenn, Nathan & Paul at Chasers in Footscray who put in a very late night to get the car ready, the car would not have made it to the event without their support .
Improvements to be made to car before time attack (will be done before time attack):
Note car my EVO was ran with semi slicks -- unlike the EVO that was quicker with qualifying slicks flown in from the UK for the event. A Hydraulic hand brake would also have been nice, I tried my handbrake and it didn't work at all (though car is being built for serious circuit work -- not skid pan work).
More Weight Saving -- Carbon fibre or fibre glass doors (as with the EVO X that was faster -- 80KG saving), New bigger Turbo and Race Headers (still running standard Turbo -- Extra 100 KW's to be made), anti lag for a tight circuit like the above, New High Flow 1600 injectors (engine would have had an extra 1800 RPM ='s less gear changes ='s quicker time), 1-2 days spent tuning suspension for High & low speed rebound (brand new suspension which hadn't been tested), brake biased needs to be fitted (rear brakes not really working), intercooler spray needs to be connected. I ran 650 springs at event, 400's would have been better with the tight course (as car is being built as a serious circuit car -- 600's are ideal though).
Looking forward to the EVO Nationals in May and World Time attack in August.
Thanks again to David Bourke from Race Prep. Also Glenn, Paul & Nathan at Chasers.
Cheers,
Steve Bradford
