  • Kola Kwariani (aka Nick the Wrestler) played the part of Maurice Oboukhoff in the 1956 movie THE KILLING by Stanley Kubrick. Kola Kwariani was also an expert chess player and played in the New York Chess and Checker Club (alias The Fleahouse) where he met fellow chess enthusiast Stanley Kubrick. The neighborhood changed, and in February 1980 at age 77 Kola Kwariani was beaten to death in the chess club by five black teenagers.

  • Kola was also known as Ack Ack at the Chess & Checker Emporium {Fisher's} on 42nd street in NYC, the club in which he was killed. The Fisher who ran the club was no relation to Bobby Fischer.
