@bluebettle I think that a lot of people critisising plastic surgery are not talking about reconstructive surgery, but yes I do get your point.
As for you getting the wrong end of the stick; once art is in the public domain its really up to your own interpretation; they may not have intended to comment on plastic surgery but they certainally have.

People's criticisms of plastic surgery to me also seems like knee-jerk opinions that over look reconstructive surgeries and treatment for cleft lip
Of course, even someone where to have an elective surgery, what's the big deal? It's their bodies, and they could do whatever they want with it.
It strikes me as kind of snobbish looking down on people and calling them "conformists" just because they want to change a part of their body.
Kind of unfairly cruel, really.

You're totally missing the point of this performance. It's a metaphor about recruitment by the modern military.
