  • Anyone know any awesome expansive immersive games? My favourites are Civilisation + Colonisation 1, X-Wing+Tie Fighter, X-com Terror from the deep, and Master of Orion 2.

  • @EdgeStormcrow My standbys are the first two Fallouts, Planescape:Torment, and Deus Ex, for mostly different reasons.

  • Compared to a work of art like Balance of Power, a cerebral, emotional, political game in 2D, Pixlejunk looks like a "fun for 10 minutes" sort of game. Also he's a lifetime game maker, so its hard to impress him :). A bit like a professional musician turning their nose up at here today, gone tomorow pop music.

  • @EdgeStormcrow Honestly, at this point he's as much of an interactive story engine maker. But I agree there's a large degree of that in his criticism.

  • thanks for uploading, just watched all 5, very interesting.

these guys have very good ideas, but the '3D is a fad' caught me off gaurd a little bit, as i've grown up with 3D.

I think we can expect more great things from Rohrer.

  • @Lindyhops17 I think Rohrer was more than a little joking with that comment ;)

  • It's wonderful to see people like these two talk in a slightly more intimate format, as opposed the highly focused presentations/talks. While their statements are not as refined and well thought-through as they could be, it does, in a sense, give a nice insight into their mindset.

I know so many people who would very quickly dismiss Jason and Chris' conviction that games could be so much more, and would probably do so with other art forms, philosophy, and whatever else, which is a real shame.

  • This was really excellent. I know of both of these guys but I'd never heard them talking before so this was a real treat and genuinely inspiring, especially with them talking about the really fundamental things and covering a bit of the history of where games have gone.

I like Mr Rohrer even more now and I can't wait to see what he in particular achieves going into the future.

  • @meatskunk But, the own explanation the devs of Pixeljnk Eden was a little ... ... pathetic. Sorry to sound so hard, but it is just a poor philosophy to build a study just for "make 2D games because they more pretty in HD" It is just lame.

However, I think that we need, indeed, new concepts, new directions, but we need too, the same games forever and ever, in the same way we have the same kind of films and book, but they tell different stories.

  • Jason held himself well when his 'job offer' to Chris was dismissed but he shouldn't be too suprised as these two guys are world's apart both on age and life experience. That said, they are both idealists and willing to stretch the limits which is always refreshing. I think if Chris fused his ideas with a dash of commercialism/flair, instead of dismissing it, his concepts would be received by a larger, more captive audience.

  • It's funny the ending echo about "can a computer make you cry", I have to fight back tears at the mere mention of Passage now.

  • well that's what I thought, until he started explaining how pacman's concept can only work in 2D and so on.
