Ancient Egyptian Mummies Get Cat Scanned

Three ancient Egyptian mummies including a mummy puppy come out of their cases at the Penn Museum to visit the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for CAT scanning.

All of the mummies in the Egyptian collection came out of Egypt legally with the full approval of the Egyptian government. Some were excavated by archaeologists working on behalf of Penn Museum, others were loaned/given to this museum from other museums.

PUM II was originally in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The mummy was transferred to Penn Museum in 1934.

Hapimen was excavated at Abydos in 1902 by the famous archaeologist, W.M. Flinders Petrie.

Imagine me stealing your grandma's body from her grave to make some scientific experiments, laughing throughout the whole process with my colleagues scientists, making jokes about her, and then enjoy a glass of wine to celebrate the "experiment". southern Egyptians were closest to northern Sudanese followed by more southerly Africans. Scientist replicated this by finding greater southern Egyptian affinity to southerly Africans than “Caucasians” in Keita (2005).
