WOW, I am so relieved and so happy! You played the song with the exact melody as I learned it 30 years ago! So many people are singing it with another tune. This is the original English folk song melody which If You Could Hie to Kolob uses. You play beautifully.

Fantastic playing and a joy to listen to! but "Irish"?? appears as one of your tag words. I realise that the Ulster song "Star of the county Down" was put to this melody with the arrival of British protestants in Northern Ireland and more recently the late Luke Kelly covered "The Unquet Grave" but i don't understand at which point did this English song became irish. This song is said to have it's roots in Anglo Saxon times, reputed as being the origonal tune of "John Barleycorn"
